Friendship Park 9th and Atlantic
In December 2010, the Monaca Volunteer Community Outreach and the Monaca Business District Authority began a “Green Gateways” project to visually enhance the various entrances into Monaca. As part of the project, a new park was constructed at the Monaca Rochester Bridge at the corner of 9th Street and Atlantic Avenue to provide a relaxing rest area for residents who walk, run or bike for daily exercise along the proposed Ohio River Trail. The park also provides a peaceful area for local business employees to enjoy their lunch breaks outdoors and close to work. Not only does the park offer a warm welcome into town, it serves to visually enhance the secondary 9th Street Business District.
Work began on the park in December of 2010 and came to full completion on December 20th with the installation of power, just in time to light up for Christmas. The construction of Friendship Park at the cost of $19,000.00 was made possible solely through generous donations of material and volunteer labor from local businesses and labor union community service programs.
