Monaca Garbage Collection Updates

Dear Resident,

We would like to provide several updates to help improve the garbage collection process in the Borough. Borough officials recently met with our hauler, Aiken Refuse, to review what has worked well and identify areas for improvement after the first two months of service in town.

Below are several reminders that were discussed. Sharing these with residents will help ensure a smoother and more efficient collection process for both our community and our hauler:

• Collection Schedule: Trash collection is based on your home address. Homes with odd-numbered addresses are serviced on Mondays, and homes with even-numbered addresses are serviced on Tuesdays.

• Collection Location: All trash should be placed at the front location of each residence for collection. Residents with special exceptions (such as a doctor’s exemption or properties without a front collection point) should contact the Borough Office to confirm their approved collection arrangement.

• Corner Properties: If your residence is located on a corner lot, garbage placement should correspond with your official address. For example, if your address is 123 Main Street at the corner of Main Street and 1st Street, the carts should be placed along Main Street, not 1st Street.

• Borough Ordinance Reminder: Refuse containers must be stored at the side or rear of the building at ground level in a manner that does not create a fire or health hazard. Containers must be readily accessible to collectors and placed at the front curb or a Borough-designated location before 6:00 a.m. on the scheduled collection day and not before 6:00 p.m. the evening prior.

• Proper Cart Placement: For safe and effective collection, carts should be placed approximately 5 feet from the curb line where possible, and at least 3 feet away from other objects such as vehicles, mailboxes, or other carts.

• Missed Pickups: If your garbage collection is missed, please contact the Borough Office at 724-775-9600 within 24 hours of the scheduled collection day. We will submit a missed collection request to Aiken Refuse for prompt service.

For your convenience, a copy of the Aiken Refuse collection calendar is attached. If you have any questions, please contact the Borough Office.

Sincerely,

David L Kramer Jr., Borough Manager
